Shasta Public Libraries Citizens Advisory Committee
The Citizens Advisory Committee meets regularly the first Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Redding Library, 1100 Parkview Avenue, Redding, California (unless otherwise noted in the agenda). Special meetings may be held for urgent or pending issues.
The Community Services Director and the Library Director staff the Committee.
About the Citizens Advisory Committee
The Citizens Advisory Committee consists of five members, serving without compensation, who are appointed in the following manner: two members are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Redding City Council; two members are appointed by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors; and one member is appointed by the Shasta Library Foundation, or its successor organization. Committee members shall serve staggered four-year terms and will be limited to two consecutive full four-year terms. In the event a committee vacancy occurs prior to the expiration of its term, the original appointing entity shall make an appointment to fulfill the unexpired term.
The Citizens Advisory Committee was established to carry out the directives of the Library Board of Trustees and act in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees in all matters pertaining to the administration, operation, development, improvement, and maintenance of the Redding Municipal Library.
In addition to the foregoing general power and duty, the committee shall have the following particular powers and duties:
- Determine and report to the Board of Trustees the community's needs in respect to library services;
- Study and recommend to the Board of Trustees on matters relating to current and future library services, including methods of financing;
- Submit to the Board of Trustees such recommendations as may seem desirable for the present and future operations of library facilities;
- Assist the Board of Trustees in ascertaining community attitudes and issues and in invoking public awareness and involvement in library services;
- Make recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding the development of library policies, services, programs, activities, and facilities;
- At least once each year, report committee activities to the Board of Trustees and make information available to other committees and officials of the City and County as required or desirable;
- Review annually, budgets and financial statements relating to library services and make recommendations thereon;
- Serve as the liaison between the Board of Trustees and the various volunteer library support groups;
- Perform other related duties as directed, from time to time, by the Board of Trustees.
